Bob Geiger: GOP Stalls On Minimum Wage To Avoid Iraq Votes

The majority of Senate Republicans filibustering and delaying the passage of a new minimum wage law may be heartless, but they're not dumb. They know that bumping the minimum wage to $7.25 per hour is enormously popular with the American people and they're also aware that it passed by huge numbers in the House of Representatives, with 80 Republicans voting in favor of helping the working poor....

Questions for Bob Geiger

Preaching to the choir is fun, Bob, but how's about answering some questions:

1. While this supposed concern for low-wage Americans is touching, isn't this really about union wages, specifically those that are pegged to some multiple of the minimum wage? Isn't the Dem concern really about those whose wages are contractually set as 3x, 4x, or more times the minimum wage?

2. Wouldn't reducing the numbers of low-wage workers that we're importing lead to naturally increased wages for those low-wage workers the Dems claim to care about? Isn't it either corrupt or stupid to support both raising the minimum wage and importing millions of low-wage workers?
