Andy Stern: Let the Debate Begin!

Over the last several days I have had the chance to speak in a variety of forums: colleges, a management consultant meeting, with SEIU members and leaders in New York, and to SEIU's first ever national meeting of Republican members.

What I find both amazing and gratifying is how much everyone loves our country, and want their children to do better economically. Americans are becoming well aware that our country is growing apart economically -- wages are at the lowest percentage of national income since the great Depression, and corporate profits are at the highest level of national income ever....

SEIU's support for illegal immigration

If there were fewer workers in the U.S., wouldn't wages inevitably rise and wouldn't the divide you mention be mitigated? On the other hand, wouldn't an influx of workers tend to lower wages and exacerbate the divide? So, why is your union such a strong supporter of illegal immigration? There are, for instance, a large number of links between your union on the recent marches in favor of illegal immigration. It's clear that your union - in addition to having large numbers of illegal alien members from whom you receive dues - is deeply involved in the movement to give rights to illegal aliens to which they are not entitled. Perhaps you should start thinking about the American worker and what's in the best interests of America, rather than your current tack.
